A festive Monsoon......

by contributor Brendan Kownacki

Another Year for Georgetown Style

Monsoon levels of wind and rain couldn’t keep the crowds away from toasting the one year anniversary of boutique Ella Rue and checking out their new location at 32nd and P St.

Guests sipped champagne and explored the two story secondhand boutique looking for the perfect designer find to add to their collection.

A portion of proceeds from the evening were being donated to the Washington Humane Society, a cause that shop owner Krista Johnson is passionate about (apparent if you know that Ella and Rue are her two rescue dogs). Krista circulated among the crowd to share in the celebration, mentioning “it was my best friends who got me here. These were my friends’ clothes…”

Johnson was candid when reflecting on the challenges of owning a business in the past year that has been marked for so many in D.C. and as a difficult financial period. “You can’t be afraid. With the recession you can’t give up” she said, explaining that determination and resolve was critical in her success to grow her business into the new, larger location.
