Martinis and Mistletoe

by contributor Brendan Kownacki

It was a holiday themed wonderland with Yule tide cheer as far as the eye could see on Wednesday evening when Teatro Goldoni hosted its annual Martinis and Mistletoe soiree.

The yearly winter charity event, now in its fourth year, raised money and awareness for Reach for College! --a research based, student tested nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged youths academically and financially to reach and succeed at the post secondary educational level.

“A lot of the kids don’t think this is an option for them” said Kenneth Parker, program director for Reach for College! “They’re scared of the process.”

The organization helps to motivate and organize kids with the resources they need to get into college, ranging from providing prep materials to paying the fees for college applications. “It’s a great investment that will propel kids into a new lifestyle” said Parker.

Guests milled throughout the restaurant including up above the scenic kitchen, sharing in cocktails and munching on sweets while participating in an auction and raffle to raise much needed funds for the worthy cause.

The holidays often inspire a spirit of giving and the gifts from this group seem to be long lasting.
