"Libation Without Representation"

Mixologist Stephen Oshana

by Janet Donovan

Media folks who didn't get the opp to lush it up in Iowa got a second chance on Wednesday night.

Mixologist Stephen Oshana of newly opened Elisir restaurant in Penn Quarter invited a bunch of them to enjoy a few politically incorrect cocktails and cast a vote for their favorite GOP presidential candidate in his own straw poll.  Like any good straw poll, the winner got nothing.....except to go on.

Wendy Gordon Emily Heil Nikki Schwab

The number of discrepancies on the ballot were determined by the losers who dropped out of the race after the caucus.....i.e. there was a line through "Libya Now, Africa later."   Guests could try as many of the offerings as they liked, but had to vote for only one.....a kind of blind polling, but hey, what else is new.  The winner will be announced in our next post.

The candidates were:
  • Michele Bachmann
  • Herman Cain
  • Newt Gingrich
  • Jon Huntsman
  • Ron Paul
  • Rick Perry
  • Buddy Roemer
  • Mitt Romney
  • Rick Santorum
A couple of drink clues on the ballot:  None were Buddy Roemer.  He was not on the ballot even though he sends out a slew of emails everyday that insist "America Needs Buddy Roemer", but does anyone even know who he is?

Even though Herman Cain had dropped out the race, Stephen pays tribute to the former contender with his Nein Nein Nein concoction.  After all, who doesn't like a singing candidate?

Guests had to match the drink with the candidate.........here's
a sampling...
