The attire, the lighting, even the cocktails…pink. Pink. PINK.

Friends and well-wishers gathered Tuesday night at Washington’s chic new cocktail lounge Dirty Bar for the official pre-party launch for Pink Rocks the Runway. The annual breast cancer awareness fashion event will take place this year on October 21st and will be headlined by the spring 2012 collection of designer Christian Siriano.

Pink Rocks the Runway is this year’s premier event from Pink Jams! an advocacy and awareness organization that was created after the founder, Christa Floresca, faced a close friend losing a battle with breast cancer.  “We want to drive home the message that breast cancer CAN and DOES happen to men and women under the age of 40. The conversation about awareness is serious, but it doesn’t have to be somber,” said Floresca.

As the runway show creeps closer, this launch event served as a way to raise funds for the cause and drive up additional interest in the important issue. Dirty Bar created a specialty pink cocktail for the event and proceeds from each drink will be donated to Pink Jams!

“I want people to know that this isn’t just about getting dressed up and having a great time,” added Floresca, “we can celebrate these fantastic survivors, enjoy a great show and concert and come together as a community. I’m looking forward to showing DC what Pink Jams! is all about.”

In addition to Siriano (an Annapolis native), the show will also feature couture collections from many other designers and have live music during the show as both professional models and cancer survivors strut down the catwalk.
